The tech giant has released a few teaser posters, one of which hints that wearable tech will be amongst the 22 new products set to debut on April 3rd. Other products are likely to fall in the “smart homes” category.
This is the 10th anniversary of the Xiaomi Smart Inn Mi Fan Festival. To celebrate, the outfit is also launching accommodation (pictured above) where gadgets and accessories from the firm can be tested. This will include a space to try out everything from its latest fridges, to wearables and the Mijia projector.
A wearable that is in for a soonish update is Mi Band 4. That one saw the light of day about a year ago and the company has been releasing new generations of the device pretty much every year. There will be a live stream press conference to announce the new products on April 3rd.
It will be interesting to see what Mi Band 5 will bring to the table. The current generation introduced a new full colour AMOLED display with 120 x 240 pixel resolution. It is also larger in size than previously coming in a 0.95 inches (versus 0.78 inches). Other features remained pretty much unchanged.
It is rumoured Mi Band 5 will support NFC outside of China for the first time. The currently generation has the chip for payments on the go, but it doesn’t work outside the country. This means NFC on Mi Band 5 will likely support Google Pay and other payment services.
The other feature that is reportedly coming is a larger display. If this turns out to be true, it will be the second year in a row Xiaomi is increasing the size of the screen. The one on Mi Band 5 is rumoured to be 1.2 inches. The current tracker has a physical button underneath the display so the company could very well keep the dimensions the same by extending the screen an integrating the button into the display.
Improvements to the 20 day battery could also be on the cards, along with other software and hardware upgrades. We’ll find out soon enough. Stay tuned for more information and the possible April 3rd reveal.
